Avoid Avis and Hertz Car Rentals
When renting a car in the US, I highly recommend you avoid big name rental car companies such as Avis or Hertz. These companies rates are highly over-priced. Much better deals can be found with smaller companies or locally owned ones.
If you overseas however, particularly in Latin America, I would recommend just the opposite. Go with the big name brands. Why? Well, in these areas of the world, trust and reliability is what you should be shopping for. While it's also important to shop for rates and save money at the rental counter, you should aim for a quality company.

Renting a Tiny Car in Santo Domingo
Labels:
Santo Domingo car rentals
I had quite the laugh the other day at the expense of a friend who rented a car for a month in Santo Domingo. He rented a small Kia Picante, a bright green one I might add.
I've seen these cars on the road before, but I guess I never took such a close look. Riding in one will definitely give you the opportunity to check out the car, and boy is it small.
The car was rented as a monthly rental for about $1,000 US. Why so much? Well, it seems insurance can be a bit steep. (If you've ever driven in the DR, you can understand why.)
Hey, but the Kia Picante did get him from point A to point B.
